The main context of yoga is to spiritually develop body and mind to self observe and become aware of their own nature. The purposes of yoga are to cultivate discernment, awareness, self- regulation and higher consciousness in the individual. The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word "yuj". Yoga means union of the individual consciousness or soul with the universal consciousness or spirit. Yoga is 5000 year old Indian body of knowledge. One may think that yoga is only a physical exercise where people twist, turn and stretch in most complex ways but yoga is more than just a physical activity. International day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. The proposal for an international yoga day was accepted and declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly.
