Bullying and its Impacts

Bullying -Act of teasing, forcing, abusing a person which may or may not be always restricted to physical harm. It can also affect the person emotionally by involving in act of name calling, shaming/embarrassing them or showing vulgar gestures. In this age of social media, cyber bullying has also increased considerably owing to the fact that the bully can remain anonymous. It is important to educate our children to stand up against the bullies and intimate the parents regarding the trouble one must endure. Parents should be open to listen to the children and help them communicate assertively to the bullying.

Bullying 

Bullying -Act of teasing, forcing, abusing a person which may or may not be always restricted to physical harm. It can also affect the person emotionally by involving in act of name calling, shaming/embarrassing them or showing vulgar gestures.

Recognizing the impact of Bullying

It is important for the parent to identify if a child is subjected to any form of bullying. Physical bullying is relatively easier to identify since the child will carry marks of the assault. It is the emotional bullying that needs to be identified earlier, which is often exhibited through sudden change in the child’s behavior like not wanting to go to school, being abnormally quiet, wetting the bed, showing tantrums etc. It might also involve the child completely avoiding the place of harassment. Parents should try and help the child to open about the behavioral change. Once identified immediate resolution should be taken care consulting with the child’s teacher.

Helping the Victims of bullying

Bullying can often have lot of impact on the victim. Victims should be thoroughly counselled to come out of the fear and frustration caused due to such unfortunate incidents. Children can also seek professional help if required. Parents must also encourage kids to be sensible to identify bullies and act swiftly.

Preventing the impact of Bullying

Parents must help children to understand bullying is never acceptable and how to stand against it to prevent them safely. Parents can keep track on their children schools, friends and their fears. They can encourage kids to develop their interest towards their passion to build confidence among them. 

Parents Responsibility towards bullying

Children often reflect the actions by the parents hence the parents should behave responsibly in front of the children. They should teach kindness and inculcate healthy habits in children. Children should be made to understand to respect differences among the peers and act unbiased. Kids should understand that their needs can be met even by being respectful to others. Such disciplines should be taught early so that it becomes the way of life.

Conclusion

Life is all about ups and downs and must try and always get up after falling. Children must be capable of living a bullying free life.
